Well Diwali is round the corner and all of you would be busy with cleaning the house and getting things done on time. There is a lot to do and very little time , yet there is an excitement surrounding the festival. This is that time of the year when people really love to buy new stuff and make new things. They also indulge in making the most delicious sweets and savouries which is fondly known as Diwali Faral in Maharashtra. Called “Bhakshanam” in Tamil Nadu, it is also known as “mithai” in Northern India. Whatever it is called or known as, it is the concept that matters and it is very much prevalent in India.
Let us see how we could make “Pokodam” a savoury very popular in South India.
Pokodam
Ingredients
3 cups rice flour
1 cup gram flour or besan
a pinch of hing or asafoetida
salt to taste
3 tsp chilli powder
1/2 cup oil
Oil to fry
Machine to make the Pokodam
Time Taken : Half an hour
Method
Take the rice flour and gram flour and add water to it.
Make it into a dough that would be as thick as the one that is used to make bread or roti
While making the dough add the chilli powder, salt, hing to it.
Now take the machine and put the dough in it and press it over the heated oil.
Make a pattern out of it and fry it till it is golden brown.
Take it out and put it in a sieve.
Your Pokodam is ready.
